Karunarasa is produced through Istanasa or destruction of desired fruit and through Anistanasa or obtaining undesred fruit. Here Soka is Sthayibhava. And Socaniyavastu or the thing subjected to grievance is Alambana ; and the state of taking to the deadbody to the funeral field etc. is Uddipana-Vibhava. Moreover, Daivaninda or denouncing fate, Bhupata or falling down to the earth, Rodanam or lamentation etc. are Anubhavas; and Nirveda or detachment Moha, swooning, Apasmara or uncurable disease, Vyadhi or curable disease, Glani or decline, Smrti or rememberance, Unmada or intense passion, Visada or grief, Jadya or steadyness etc. are Vyabhicaribhava's of sentiment of Pathos. In this connection, two verses selected from the Pathetic scene at the end of the eight Act may be quoted to show the delineation of Karuna-rasa. bahyajanaih sardham dirghamarga tvaya prakantena | dinadasasamtapto dayitajano natha kimiti samtyaktah || S.S. 229 ladies like Trsna, who belong to the same family, fall on the ground and raise their lament." Here the sentiment of Pathos is developed through Istanasa i.e. the destruction of Mahamoha who is the beloved husband of Durmati, and through Anistaprapti i.e. obtaining widowhood, (this elememt is not evident). Here lamentation of Durmati is Sthayibhava; Mahamoha who is already dead is Alambana; Uddipanabhava is silent. Tumburu's denouncing the fate, lamentation of Trsna etc. are Anubhavas; Durmatis falling in swoon, decline of her status and sorrowful condition are Vyabhicaribhavas. Thus these two are apt examples delineating Karunarasa.
