Vedanta (school of philosophy)
: Wikisource: Ashtavakra Gitaṇḍٲⲹ (पाण्डित्) refers to “one who employs wisdom, according to the Aṣṭāvakragītā (5th century BC), an ancient text on spirituality dealing with Advaita-Vedānta topics.—Accordingly, [as Aṣṭavakra says to Janaka]: “[...] Not distracted in distraction, in mental stillness not poised, in stupidity not stupid, that blessed one is not even wise (貹ṇḍٲ) in his wisdom (ṇḍٲⲹ). [jāḍye'pi na jaḍo dhanya pāṇḍitye'pi na 貹ṇḍٲ] The liberated man is self-possessed in all circumstances and free from the idea of ‘done and ‘still to do. He is the same wherever he is and without greed. He does not dwell on what he has done or not done. [...].

Vedanta (वेदान्, vedānta) refers to a school of orthodox Hindu philosophy (astika), drawing its subject-matter from the Upanishads. There are a number of sub-schools of Vedanta, however all of them expound on the basic teaching of the ultimate reality (brahman) and liberation (moksha) of the individual soul (atman).
