Source: Wisdom Library: NÄá¹ya-Å›Ästra³¢´Ç°ì²¹»å³ó²¹°ù³¾Ä« (लोकधरà¥à¤®à¥€, “realistic practiceâ€�) is a Sanskrit word referring to the “realistic mode of dramatic representationâ€�, which follows the practice of peoples, according to the NÄá¹yaÅ›Ästra verse 14.61. It is one of the two kinds of dramatic representation, also called »å³ó²¹°ù³¾Ä«, or dharmin.
: archive.org: Natya Shastra³¢´Ç°ì²¹»å³ó²¹°ù³¾Ä« (“realisticâ€�) is a devision of the technical practice of the production of a play—If a play depends on natural behaviour [in its characters] and is simple and not artificial, and has in its plot profession and activities of the people and has simple acting and no playful flourish of limbs and depends on men and women of different types, it is called Realistic (loka»å³ó²¹°ù³¾Ä«).

Natyashastra (नाटà¥à¤¯à¤¶à¤¾à¤¸à¥à¤¤à¥à¤°, ²ÔÄåá¹y²¹Å›Äå²õ³Ù°ù²¹) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
