Gitashastra (science of music)
: Wisdom Library: Saṅīٲśiromaṇiīٲṇa (गीतगुण) refers to the “ten good qualities of a song�, according to the Saṅīٲśiromaṇi 14.75-76. The compound consists of the words īٲ (song) and ṇa (qualities). There are ten good qualities of a song defined:
- ūṇa (complete),
- prasanna (clear),
- madhura (charming),
- ܰܳ (lovely),
- ṃkṛt (ornate),
- vyakta (distinct),
- surakta (harmonious),
- ṣṭ (evocative),
- śṣṇ (smooth),
- sama (even).
The Saṅīٲśiromaṇi (“crest-jewel of music�) is a 15th-century Sanskrit work on Indian musicology (Իśٰ).
Gitashastra (गीतशास्त्र, īٲśāstra) refers to the ancient Indian science of Music (gita or samgita), which is traditionally divided in Vocal music, Instrumental music and Dance (under the jurisdiction of music).
