Part 3 - Place of articulation

There are many theories regarding the articulator place of sound. According to ī Śṣ�, the internal air first rises from the heart and undergoes changes in the throat, then it strikes the head�

उर� कण्ठ� शिरश्चेत� स्थानानि त्रीणि वाङ्मये।
सवनान्याहुरेतानि सा� वाऽप्यर्थतोऽन्तरम्�

ura� kaṇṭha� śiraśceti sthānāni trīṇi vāṅmaye|
savanānyāhuretāni sāma vā'pyarthato'ntaram|| 

(ī Śṣ� 1/1/7)

This process of speech production seems to have been widely accepted by ṻ岹پśⲹ[1], 󲹰ٲṭyśٰ[2], Śܰⲹܰ岹پśⲹ[3] and ܱܰṇa[4].

This type of articulation is based on �Բṛt�. The savana means the time when the juice is extracted from the soma leaves. There are three types of savana like ٲḥsԲ, ⲹԻ徱ԲԲ and ṛtīⲹԲ

The Pāṇinīya Śṣ� also mentioned, this type of articulation according to savana

मारुतस्तूरसि चरन् मन्द्र� जनयत� स्वरम्�
प्रातःसवनयोग� तं छन्द� गायत्रमाश्रितम्॥

mārutastūrasi caran mandra� janayate svaram|
ٲḥsԲyoga� ta� chando gāyatramāśritam||

(Verse, 7)

कण्ठ� माध्यन्दिनयुगं मध्यमं त्रैष्टुभानुगम्।
तारं तृतीयसवन� शीर्षण्य� जगतानुगम्॥

kaṇṭhe mādhyandinayuga� madhyama� traiṣṭubhānugam|
tāra� ṛtīⲹԲ� śīrṣaṇya� jagatānugam||

(Verse, 8)

प्रातः पठेन� नित्यमुरस्थिते� स्वरेण शार्दुलरुतोपमेन।
मध्यन्दिने कण्ठगतेन चै� चक्राह्वसङ्कूजितसन्निभेन�

prāta� paṭhen nityamurasthitena svareṇa śārdularutopamena|
madhyandine kaṇṭhagatena caiva cakrāhvasaṅkūjitasannibhena||

(Verse, 36)

तारं तु विद्यात् सवनं तृतीयं शिरोगत� तच्च सद� प्रयोज्यम्�
मयूरहंसान्याभृतस्वराणा� तुल्ये� नादे� शिरस� स्थितेन॥

tāra� tu vidyāt savana� tṛtīya� śirogata� tacca sadā prayojyam|
mayūrahaṃsānyābhṛtasvarāṇāṃ tulyena nādena śiras sthitena|| 

(Verse, 37)

शिष्याणामुपदेशार्थ� कुर्यात् वृत्ति� विलम्बिता॥

abhyāsārthe drutā� vṛtti� prayogārthe tu madhyamām|
śiṣyāṇāmupadeśārthe kuryāt vṛtti� vilambitā||

This same verse is also available in the Yājñavalkya Śṣ� (verse , 49) also. The Kauṇḍinyāyana Śṣ� (1/11, 12) also mentioned this three types of articulation processed.
