: Knowledge Traditions & Practices of India: Education: Systems & Practicesپ岹 (इतिहासवे�) refers to the “science of history� and represents one of the divisions of the Upaveda (applied knowledge) class of knowledge, lying between that of the ʲܰūṣeⲹ and 貹ܰūṣeⲹ classification of Śٰ knowledge; all part of the ancient Indian education system, which aimed at both the inner and the outer dimension of a person.

Dharmashastra (धर्मशास्त्�, dharmaśāstra) contains the instructions (shastra) regarding religious conduct of livelihood (dharma), ceremonies, jurisprudence (study of law) and more. It is categorized as smriti, an important and authoritative selection of books dealing with the Hindu lifestyle.
