Abhinihita (अभिनिहित).—Used in connection with a सन्ध� (sandhi) or euphonic combination in which the vowel � (a), as a first or a second member, is absorbed into the other member. e. g. रथेभ्य� (ٳⲹ�) + अग्र� (agre) = रथेभ्योऽग्रे (rathebhyo'gre) also दाशुषेऽग्र� (śṣe'), where � (a) of अग्र� (agre) is absorbed or merged in � (o) of रथेभ्य� (ٳⲹ�) or � (e) of दाशुषे (śṣe); cf. अथ�-भिनिहितः संधिरेतै� प्राकृतवैकृतैः � एकीभवति पादादिरकारस्तेत्� संधिजा� (athā-bhinihita� saṃdhiretai� prākṛtavaikṛtai� | ekībhavati pādādirakārastetra saṃdhijā�); R. (-ٲ�--ٲ) Suppressed.—abhinihita is called [a.]) in the ṻ.-ʰپś. the sandhi (q. v.) which is produced when the vowel a in the beginning of a word is suppressed after a final o or e; [b.]) in the Ṛgv.-, Vājas.- and ٳ󲹰.-ʰپśⲹ the svarita (q. v.) which is produced in consequence of an anudātta a (in the beginning of a word) being suppressed after a final udātta o or e. The ղٳپ.-ʰ. calls the latter abhinihata (acc. to Weber, Ind. Stud. Iv. p. 135). E. with ni and abhi, kṛt aff. kta.
