Vatsyayana has stated that a virtuous wife should
give much attention to her husband's food. Sanskrit
poets, hence, described that a wife should act like a
15 mother, when her husband takes food.

According to the
Kamasutra, a wife should show respect to her husband by
standing, when he comes near; she should sleep after
him and wake up before him. This advice is given to a
daughter by a poet and he concludes that this is the way
16 to gain dharma for a good wife. Here the poet has
followed Vätsyayana's idea.
The Kamasutra gives some more instructions to a house-
wofe thus- "She should also observe the fasts and vows
of her husband, and when he tries to prevent her doing
17 this, she should persuade him to let her do it. She
