La� (लट�).—General personal ending applied to roots (1) to show the present time for which the personal endings ति तः (ti ta�) ... मह� (mahi) are substituted for the formation of verbs and अत� (at) (शत� (ś�)) and आन (Բ) or मा� () (शानच� (śԲc)) for the formation of the present participle; (2) to show past time when the indeclinable स्� (sma) is used in the sentence along with the verbal form or when the indeclinables नन�, �, नु, पुरा, यावत�, कद�, कर्ह� (nanu, na, nu, ܰ, , , karhi) etc. are used along with the verbal form under specific conditions; e. g. कट� करोत� देवदत्तः, यजति स्� युधिष्ठिरः, अह� नु करोम�, वसन्ती� पुरा छात्रा�, यावद� भुङ्क्ते (kaṭa� karoti devadatta�, yajati sma yudhiṣṭhira�, aha� nu karomi, vasantīha ܰ chātrā�, yāvad bhuṅkte) etc.; cf.
