This book studies the Upapuranas: a vast category of (often Sanskrit) literature representing significant historical, religious, and cultural insights of the ancient Indian civilization. These Upa-Purana texts provide rich information, especially on Hinduism covering theology, mythology, rituals, and dynastic genealogies....
Chapter 9.5 - The Barhaspatya-purana (study)
Barhaspatya Upapurana is mentioned as the fourth Upapurana in the list of Upapuranas contained in the Reva-khanda (1. 49) of the Skandap. No other list contains its name, nor does any commentator or Nibandha-writer draw upon or refer to it. So, we are quite ignorant of its date and contents. According to the Reva-khanda, this Barhaspatya Upapurana belonged to the Vayu-purana (barhaspatyam caturtham ca vayavyam sammatam sada. Skanda-purana V. iii. 1. 49 a).
