This page relates ‘idea or theme of Kavya (poetry)—Introduction� of the English study on the Kavyamimamsa of Rajasekhara: a poetical encyclopedia from the 9th century dealing with the ancient Indian science of poetics and rhetoric (also know as alankara-shastra). To Ჹś, the idea or theme of 屹ⲹ (poetry) is classified into three parts—i..
- Anyayoni,
- Nihynutyoni [nihnutayoni?] and
- Ayoni.
Anyayoni have two sub-types: Pratibimbakalpa and Ālekhyaprakhya. Nihynutyoni’s [nihnutayoni?] two sub-types are Tulyadehitulya and ʲܰśṛśa but Ayoni has no sub-division. These types of five classification of subject matter done by Ჹś to take advantage of views of 峾Բ and ĀԲԻ岹Բ. Ჹś approves the views of 峾Բ and recognized it.
峾Բ in the history of Sanskrit poetics analyzed �artha� in 屹ⲹ (poetry) into three divisions by saying:
�artho dvividho'yoniranyacchāyāyoniśca |
ⲹٲ� sūkṣmaśca | sūkṣmo bhāvyo vāsanīyaśca || �- Kāvyālaṃkārasūṭra-ṛtپ of 峾Բ: Ch-III/2/7-9
Therefore, ĀԲԻ岹Բ in his Dhvanyāloka developed this concept about three types of artha in 屹ⲹ (poetry) and there his definite improvement on the older theory as:
