Worship & worshipper Festivals and celebrations. 377 During festive occasions like the Navaratri the idol of the goddess is taken
out on procession. The goddess assumes different forms and is carried on
different mounts such as the bull, the parrot, the lion, the swan, the snake,
the Garuda, the lotus, the sun and the moon. Apart from these mounts she is
carried on a special palanquin. On the tenth day of the Navaratri festival, the
goddess is placed on a chariot which is pulled by the devouts and carried in a
royal procession. Such festivities known as 'Bramhotsava' or 'Jatras' can be
seen at all major temples specially sacred to the goddess like the Kāmaksī
temple at Kanchipuram, the Sarada temple at Srngeri, the Camundeswari
temple at Mysore, the Meenakshi temple at Madurai, Tiruchanoor in
Andhrapradesh for the goddess Padmavati etc... Apart from these collective
or individual worship is offered to the goddess. The clay idols of the goddess
are specially brought and worshipped in the house individually or placed in
the specially erected pandals and community worship is offered to the
goddess. After the worship is offered with full devotion for nine days, the
goddess is then immersed in the water of lake or river or the sea on the tenth
day.
Worshipper.
Worshipper is the one who offers worship to the chosen deity. The
worshipper is referred to as sädhaka. The process of worship is elaborate
and complex as inferred from the previous section. Now the focus is on the
worshipper who is both the Guru or the initiator and the Sisya who is the
initiate. The study will be triangular in nature. It will as such focus on three
