A sādhaka has to offer worship to the goddess everyday. Apart from this,
elaborate worship is prescribed on the following five Parva-days" - the
eighth day of dark fortnight, the fourteenth day of dark fortnight, full-moon
day and new-moon day. The days of eclipses especially those of solar
eclipse are considered most efficacious for doing japa¹41. Worship to the
goddess is specifically emphasized on the days of solar eclipse 142. According
to the MBT an eclipse is nothing but the union of Siva and Sakti. Worship
offered on these days is highly conducive of merit. Apart from these,
Tuesday is especially sacred to the goddess Durga and Friday for the
goddess Lakṣmī. On Sundays, the goddess of sickness and diseases
especially śītalā, Mariamma etc... are worshipped. Like the specific-days,
some tithis too are mentioned as especially conducive to the worship of the
goddess such as follows'
