These four Lords of the Ages (ܲٳ) are highly revered in the Kālīkrama and came to be considered to be embodiments of the basic states of consciousness. Yoga (school of philosophy)
: academia.edu: Tessitori Collection I (yoga)Machhendranath is the Guru of Gorakhnāth, according to the Garakhabodha (classified as Medieval Hindi literature), which is included in the collection of manuscripts at the ‘Vincenzo Joppi library, collected by Luigi Pio Tessitori during his visit to Rajasthan between 1914 and 1919.—The Gorakhbodh, a work written in an old form of Hindi and reported to date from the 14th century. The work is in rhymed prose, sixty stanzas in all, and is in the form of a conversation between Gorakhnāth and his Guru Machhendranāth, the stanzas being a question and an answer alternately. Unfortunately the extreme conciseness and difficulty of the text and particular character of the exposition make this source only partially utilizable.

Yoga is originally considered a branch of Hindu philosophy (astika), but both ancient and modern Yoga combine the physical, mental and spiritual. Yoga teaches various physical techniques also known as āsanas (postures), used for various purposes (eg., meditation, contemplation, relaxation).
India history and geography
Source: Wisdom Library: Teachers, Saints and SagesMacchendranatha (=Māyārūpī ѲԻٳ) (lit. “the wondrous form) refers to one of the “nine saints (Navnath) identified with Guru or Gorakhnatha, according to Rai Bahadur Hira Lal in his Tribes and Castes of the Central Provinces of India and G. W. Briggs in his Gorakhnath and the Kanphata Yogis.—While the word Natha is a synonym for Hindu Yogi, in this connection it refers to the nine great or deified and immortal teachers of the sect. They now live far back in the holy Himalayas. [...] These nine teachers [e.g., Macchendranatha] are considered representative of great teachers in this tradition or Parampara tradition—a succession of Teachers (Gurus) and Disciples (Shishyasa) in Indian-origin religions such as Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism.

The history of India traces the identification of countries, villages, towns and other regions of India, as well as mythology, zoology, royal dynasties, rulers, tribes, local festivities and traditions and regional languages. Ancient India enjoyed religious freedom and encourages the path of Dharma, a concept common to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism.
