Part 3 - The history of Vantideva (1164-71 A.D.)
Paramanuka was succeeded by his son, Vantideva, also known as Varttideva. Vantideva is the short. form of Avantideva as is evident from the coins bearing the latter form of the legend. We are informed by Jonaraja that, after his demise, the elite and the able citizens of the country chose Bopadeva as their King. The relationship, if any, between Vantideva and his successor, Bopadeva, is not known. It is generally, therefore, held that the second Lohara dynasty came to an end with 1. The lack of details in the Rajatarangini of Jonaraja is easily understandable for he composed his chronicle much later under the patronage of a Muslim ruler and, very possibly, had little access to works of historical nature dealing with the history of the period under discussion. 3. Jonarija devotes only one verse to Vantideva and there is no other source of informa tion which may throw light on his reign Thus, the short and uneventful reign of Vantideva ended in 1171 A.D. There is no indication of any important activity during his reign as the King seems to have been content with maintaining himself on the throne without, apparently, exerting himself in administrative affairs.
