Part 6 - Overthrow of the Usurper Jajja
During the absence of Jayapida on his mission of conquests, the throne of Kashmir had been usurped by Jajja, his brother-in-law, as stated earlier. Evidently, the usurper was not a popular ruler, for Jayapida soon had a large number of followers, high and low, peasants, tribal and forest peoples. Jajja, too, came forward with his followers and gave battle to Jayapida at Sushkaletra, but the issue was undecided. Ultimately, srideva, a Chandala, succeeded in bringing down Jajja by a stone hurled from a sling 2 3 1 and the forces of the latter took to flight. Jajja 1.
