Now it remains to be ascertained whether 颧 is a
direct transcript from the hypothetical Devan膩gar墨
original, or is a copy of some intermediate 艢膩rad膩
exemplar which might itself be a direct or an in-
direct descendant of the Devan膩gar墨 original. There
are certain corrupt readings in 艢 which may throw
some light on this problem also. The following
instances may be studied :-

correct reading, for it is supported by the next line
'啶夃い啷嵿い啶距え啷� 啶掂ぐ啶︵ 啶ぞ啶｀た啷� [utt膩no varada岣� p膩峁噄0] '; it is also corroborated by the follow-
ing previous reading:
啶夃い啷嵿い啶距え啶灌じ啷嵿い啶むぞ 啶啶班啶曕啶むぞ 啶ぞ啶氞い啶距ぎ啷囙さ 啶ㄠた啶む啶う啶� 啷� [耻迟迟腻苍补丑补蝉迟补迟腻 prokt膩 y膩cat膩meva nityad膩 | ] 膩n., 154. 170 c-d.
Here also, both D and 艢 give this same reading
'啶夃い啷嵿い啶距え啶灌じ啷嵿い啶むぞ [耻迟迟腻苍补丑补蝉迟补迟腻] ' which is the same in sense as '啶夃い啷嵿い啶距え啶曕ぐ啶むぞ [耻迟迟腻苍补办补谤补迟腻] '.
So it is clear that the Sarad膩 scribe might have
confused the Devan膩gar墨 letter with the S膩rad膩
symbol for the letter (), and the corrupt reading
啶夃い啷嵿い啶距え啶曕ぐ啶溹ぞ [耻迟迟腻苍补办补谤补箩腻] ' was the result.]
