In all these instances the confusion occurs between the
two letters 't' (a) and 'n' (7). This confusion is possible only
in the case of the Devanagari letters- and -and never in the
case of the 艢膩rad膩 letters; for in the S膩rad膩 script these two
letters do not resemble at all, and so they can never be confused
with each other. Hence, it may be inferred that S is a copy of some
Devan膩gar墨 original, or of some intermediate S膩rad膩 exemplar
which was itself a direct or an indirect descendant of the
supposed Devan膩gar墨 original. This inference may further be
strengthened by the following instances
