20 The partial manifestations are divided into a峁兣沘 and k膩la, and
according to the same tantra, an a峁兣沘 is one-fourth of the whole and
a k膩la is the sixteenth part thereof. 21
Amsa:
The first instance of an A峁兣浤乿at膩ra is Vair膩ja-Puru峁�a Himself,
for, according to the Bh膩gavata, N膩r膩ya峁嘺, the Prime Deity having
previously made Vir膩t, entered it with an a峁僺a. The Vir膩t served as
a Deity (par) for Him, and He, on account of reposing there, received
the epithet of Puru峁�a. 22 The statement of the Bh膩gavata that
Vair膩ja-Puru峁�a is an a峁兣沘, i.e., one fourth of the Supreme, is the
wake of the vedic expression that only one foot (out of the four feet)
of the Lord is here. Now, this Vir膩j-Puru峁�a, who is an a峁兣沘 of the
Supreme, is in his own form, the source of other a峁兣浤乿at膩ras and
the K膩l膩vat膩ras. 23
