This page relates 鈥楾otal number of Nayikas (heroines)鈥� of the study dealing with the Ashta-Nayikas鈥攁 classification of eight kinds of 鈥淗eroines鈥� representing the eight emotional states (avastha) employed in the classical Indian dance and performing arts (otherwise known as Natya Shastra). These Ashtanayikas reflect the eight types of romantic relationships and have hence formed the expressive subject of many classical painting, poems and dramatic plays.

Part 6 - Total number of 狈腻测颈办腻蝉 (heroines)
Traditionally the heroines are believed to be 384 in number. The 尘耻驳诲丑腻 was always considered as one. 惭补诲丑测腻 was considered six (诲丑墨谤腻, a诲丑墨谤腻 and 诲丑墨谤腻dh墨ra each in 箩测别峁ａ弓丑腻 and 办补苍颈峁ａ弓丑腻 situations). It was the same for the pragalbha too. Thus 厂惫墨测腻 was 1+6+6 = 13 total. 笔补谤补办墨测腻 was of two types (办补苍测腻 and 辫补谤辞岣峢腻) and the 蝉腻尘补苍测腻 was of one variety only. Thus the basic divisions of 苍腻测颈办腻 types were (13+2+1= 16) sixteen in total. Each of these 苍腻测颈办腻s was supposed to fit into the 补峁ａ弓腻惫补蝉迟丑腻岣�, thus making 16 x 8 = 128.

Now, since the 诲丑墨谤腻 and others have been removed from the equation, the total number of 苍腻测颈办腻 varieties will be thus鈥�

Each of these as 鲍迟迟补尘腻, 惭补诲丑测补尘腻 and 础诲丑补尘腻 = 80 x 3= 240.
