Story of Danu

General information.

Danu, the daughter of ٲṣa was married to śⲹ貹 ʰ貹پ. It is mentioned in Ѳٲ that the Բ (demons) were born from Danu.

Sons.

One hundred sons were born to Danu. The following are the important among them.

1. Vipracitti 3. Namuci

2. Śibara 4. ʳܱdz

5. dz 20. śgrīvan

6. ś 21. ūṣm

7. Durjaya 22. ճܳṇḍ

8. Ayaśśiras 23. Ekapād

9. śś 24. Ekacakra

10. śśaṅku 25. վūṣa

11. Garga 26. Harihara

12. Amūrdhā 27. Nicandra

13. ձ𲵲 28. Nikumbha

14. ٳܳ 29. 貹ṭa

15. Գ 30. Ś

16. ś 31. Ś

17. śpati 32. ūⲹ

18. ṛṣ貹 33. Candra.

19. Ajaka

(This sun and the moon (ūⲹ and Candra) are not the planets).

From the sons named above ten families of Բ (asuras) arose. The founders of the families are mentioned below:

1. ṣa 6. Tapana

2. ṛt貹 7. Ś

3. Pralamba 8. Ѳ󲹲Գ

4. Naraka 9. Garviṣṭha

5. 10. īᾱ󱹲

All the dānavas or Asuras belong to one of these ten families. (Ѳٲ Ādi Parva, Chapter 65).
