20. Then the qualities, being preceded by their causes and closely following them, become perceptible in the effects and become the cause of the manifestation of their own universals.

Commentary

[As the qualities are the effects of the substances, their production takes place at the next moment. For one moment, therefore, the effect is devoid of any quality. Once the qualities arc produced, they manifest their own universals. Thus all objects are created and all this is due to the power called Time, the essence of which is that it is temporal order.]
