Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 1.6.118:
मनुष्याः कतिचिद भ्रातः पर ते सत्य-वाक्यत
जाताशयैव जीवन्त नेच् श्रोतुम् अत परम् ११ manuṣyā katicid bhrāta para te satya-ⲹta |
jātāśayaiva jīvanti neccha śrotum ata param || 118 ||O brother ṛṣṇa, even some of the local folks there, having trust in Your words with the hope to have Your 岹śԲ, are somehow maintaining their lives. Therefore, do not crave to hear anything more than this.
Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda
(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)
“Well, tell us about the local folks of Vraja. But what more can I say about them? With this apprehension, Śrī Baladeva narrates this verse beginning with Գṣy. “Some of the common folk, having trust in Your words, are somehow maintaining their lives. Here the import of saying “some is that most of them have sacrificed their lives for You. The purport of saying satya-ⲹ (truthful speech) is that when Śrī ṛṣṇa came from Gokula to Madhupurī, He declared to them, āyāsye bhavato geham, “I will be coming to your house… (Śī-岵ٲ or 岵ٲ ʳܰṇa 10.41.17)
And in the wrestling arena (ṅg ū) He told Śrī Nanda , jñātīn vo draṣṭum eṣyāma: “I will quickly come back to meet with you and my friends and relatives. (Śī-岵ٲm or 岵ٲ ʳܰṇa 10.45.23) By trusting these words, with the aspiration of obtaining Your 岹śԲ alone, the people of Vraja are somehow maintaining their lives. Therefore, do not hanker to hear any more details, because by hearing bad news about Your beloved devotees, a great, unwanted threat may arise.
