This figure is depicting Kuncita Karana of the Natya Sastra–no. 52–“A leg to be first in Ancita and the left hand is held on left side with palm facing upwards.� Here right foot is on the floor and the left knee is on the floor which is somewhat like Parsvasuci of Abhinaya Darpana. “The right hand is in Kuncita with the hand bent till the elbow is pointed.� It is turned out and facing up and the left hand is stretched out and they seem to be holding the circle around.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
