±·±ðṣṭá¹� (नेषà¥à¤Ÿà¥ƒ) refers to one of the three types of companions for the Adhvaryu, which is one of the four classes of Ṛtvijas (Ṛtvik), or “priests participating in the Vedic sacrificesâ€�, as mentioned in the ÅšivapurÄṇa 2.2.27.—The priests (Ṛtvijas) participating in the Vedic sacrifices are usually four in number. They are Hotá¹�, Adhvaryu, UdgÄtá¹� and Brahman corresponding to the four Vedas—Ṛg, Yajus, SÄman and Atharvan respectively. Each of the priests has three companions or helpers, the total no. is sixteen viz. Hotṛ—MaitrÄvaruṇa, AcchÄvÄka, GrÄvastut; Adhvaryu—PratiprasthÄtá¹�, ±·±ðṣṭá¹�, Unnetá¹�; UdgÄtṛ—Prastotá¹�, Pratihartá¹�, Subrahmaṇya and Brahman—BrÄhmaṇÄcchaṃsin, Ag²ÔÄ«dhra, Potá¹�.
