Source: Wisdom Library: Brihat Samhita by Varahamihira骋辞辫墨岣嵞� (啶椸啶啶∴ぞ) refers to the 鈥渁ffliction of cows鈥�, according to the B峁沨atsa峁僪it膩 (chapter 8), an encyclopedic Sanskrit work written by Var膩hamihira mainly focusing on the science of ancient Indian astronomy astronomy (Jyoti峁).鈥擜ccordingly, 鈥淭he years of Jupiter (产峁沨补蝉辫补迟颈) take their names from the several Nak峁tras in which he reappears after his conjunction with the Sun; and these names are identical with the names of the lunar months. [...] In the K膩rttika year of Jupiter, cart drivers, persons that live by fire and cows will be afflicted with miseries [i.e., 驳辞辫墨岣嵞�]; there will be disease and wars in the land; flowers of blood and of yellow colour will thrive. [...]鈥�.
Jyotisha (啶溹啶啶むた啶�, 箩测辞迟颈峁 or jyotish) refers to 鈥榓stronomy鈥� or 鈥淰edic astrology鈥� and represents the fifth of the six Vedangas (additional sciences to be studied along with the Vedas). Jyotisha concerns itself with the study and prediction of the movements of celestial bodies, in order to calculate the auspicious time for rituals and ceremonies.
