The Five Gnoses are known in Tibetan as ye shes lnga.—Accordingly, [while describing the Bön standpoint on meditation], [quoting from the “Ornament of Sunlight�, pp. 376�85]: “[...] In the center of the divine palace of the precious essential mind, abiding on the eight petals of the veins, are the five elemental essences. In the center of that are the five gnoses, like a ball of rolled-up colored threads. In the center of that is a sphere of light, which is the Bön body. That has an empty nature, so it does not go to the extreme of permanence, and it is cognitive and clear, so it does not go to the extreme of annihilation. [...]�

The Five Gnoses are:

  1. the mirror-like gnosis,
  2. the gnosis of equality,
  3. the discriminating gnosis,
  4. the all-accomplishing gnosis, and
  5. the gnosis of the 󲹰ٳ.

The Five Wisdoms are:

1. Wisdom of the Embodied Nature of Dharma Realm - derived from amala vijanana, i.e. pure consciousness (or mind).
2. Wisdom of the Great Round Mirror - derived from alaya vijanana, (8th consciousness) reflecting all things.
3. Wisdom in regard to all things equally and universally - derived from manovijanana (7th consciousness).
4. Wisdom of profound insight, or discrimination, for exposition and doubt - destruction - derived from the mind consciousness (6th consciousness).
5. Wisdom of perfecting the double work of self welfare and the welfare of others - derived from the five senses (1st to 5th consciousness).
