: archive.org: Hindu Mathematics膧诲测补尘奴濒补 (啶嗋う啷嵿く啶啶�) refers to the 鈥渇irst root鈥�, according to the principles of B墨jaga峁噄ta (鈥渁lgebra鈥� or 鈥榮cience of calculation鈥�), according to Ga峁噄ta-艣膩stra, ancient Indian mathematics and astronomy.鈥擜ccording to P峁泃h奴dakasv膩m墨 (860) in his commentary on the Br膩hmasphu峁璦siddh膩nta by Brahmagupta (628): 鈥淗ere are stated for ordinary use the terms which are well known to people. The number whose square, multiplied by an optional multiplier and then increased or decreased by another optional number, becomes capable of yielding a square-root, is designated by the term the lesser root (办补苍颈峁ａ弓丑补辫补诲补) or the first root (腻诲测补尘奴濒补).
