This is a critical study of the Paumacariya: the earliest Jain version of Rama's life story, written in Prakrit by Vimalasuri dating to the 4th century AD. In this text, Rama (referred to as Padma) is depicted with lotus-like eyes and a blooming face. The Paumacariya places emphasis on the human aspects of characters rooted in Jain values, contrasting with the divine portrayal in Valmiki’s version.

LITERARY EVALUATION Conditional Mood 571 At a few places Conditional Mood is observed. It is formed by
applying the persent participle to the verb and then by changing it to
the gender of the subject :-
जइ सो मुणी महप्पा, एन्त� लंकाहिवम्म� जीवन्त� �
तो लक्खणस्स पी�, होन्ती सह रक्खसिन्देणं ।। ७५।२� ।।
जइ हं समाही� तत्थ मरन्ति महावणे धोरे �

Hemaandra ( 8.3.180). In the Avaśyakacurni, too, we observe such

In the passive voice Parasmaipada terminations are generally
appended. Some examples of Atmanepada terminations can be
