[Full title: Depiction of scenes from the life of Buddha: Birth of ¸éÄå³ó³Ü±ô²¹]

Story:-

When ³§¾±»å»å³óÄå°ù³Ù³ó²¹ attained the age of twenty-nine his wife Yasodhara gave birth to a son. The son was named ¸éÄå³ó³Ü±ô²¹. To ³§¾±»å»å³óÄå°ù³Ù³ó²¹ the birth of ¸éÄå³ó³Ü±ô²¹ meant further bondage to worldly life. In order to avoid attachment to worldly bondage ³§¾±»å»å³óÄå°ù³Ù³ó²¹ decided to leave the palace. Thus on the day of ¸éÄå³ó³Ü±ô²¹â€™s birth, ³§¾±»å»å³óÄå°ù³Ù³ó²¹ left his palace at night in search of truth.

Depiction:-

The illustration of birth of ¸éÄå³ó³Ü±ô²¹ is visible on a dome slab from ´¡³¾²¹°ùÄå±¹²¹³ÙÄ« preserved in the Archaeological Museum, ´¡³¾²¹°ùÄå±¹²¹³ÙÄ«. The scene shows ³§¾±»å»å³óÄå°ù³Ù³ó²¹ bidding good-bye to his wife and newly born ¸éÄå³ó³Ü±ô²¹. Candaka, his charioteer is sculpted with a torch. The upper section contains two devotees and the lower section reveals two standing adorents. In between these two section the palace is sculpted[1].(Pl 21b)
