Preface
Sucindrasthalamahatmya of anonymous authorship is one among the important Sthalamahatmyas of South India, which embodies full fledged legendary account of the origin and development of the Trimurti temple situated at Sucindram in Kanyakumari district of Tamilnadu. The present thesis, "Sucindrasthalamahatmya - A critical Edition and study" is a modest attempt to edit the work and study the various legends, customs and religious practices dealt with in the work, and highlights its significance in the field of Indian culture. The thesis falls broadly in to two parts. Part I is study of the text, in four chapters, excluding Introduction and conclusion. The first chapter deals with the Sthalamahatmyas of South India. The second chapter is the textual contents of the work. The third chapter is a detailed description of Sucindram temple and other temples and places mentioned in the text. The fourth chapter is the critical study of the work. Part II provides the critical apparatus followed by the edited text, and appendix. ANAND DILIP RAJ
