This page relates 鈥�28a. Kalagnirudra on Trishakti and Mrityunjaya Mantras鈥� of the study on the Shaiva Upanishads in English, comparing them with other texts dealing with the Shiva cult (besides the Agamas and Puranas). The 鲍辫补苍颈峁诲s are ancient philosophical and theological treatises. Out of the 108 Upanishads mentioned in the Muktikopanishad, 15 are classified as Saiva-Upanisads.

28a. 碍腻濒腻驳苍颈谤耻诲谤补 on Tri艣akti and M峁泃yu帽jaya Mantras
Once it happened that 厂补苍补迟办耻尘腻谤补 asked the exalted 碍腻濒腻驳苍颈谤耻诲谤补:
鈥淭each me O exalted Sir! the truth in respect to the rule of the 罢谤颈辫耻峁囜笉谤补尘 (a sect mark consisting of three streaks) and what material, which place, how much, of what extent and which streaks, which divinity, which formula, which powers and which reward there are?鈥�
The exalted one said to him
鈥淭he material should be the ash of fires. One should grasp it with the five Brahman-formulas. Consecrate it with the formula 鈥�Agnir iti Bhasma鈥� etc., Take out with the formula 鈥�尘腻苍补蝉 toke tanayae鈥� and (after consecrating) with the formula 鈥�T峁泍ambakam Yaj膩mahe鈥� should apply it as

Three lines across on the head, forehead, breast and shoulders under the 迟谤测腻测耻峁 formulas, 迟峁泍补尘产补办补 formulas and 迟谤颈艣补办迟颈 formulas.[1]
