4. Rudra in the ṛhⲹ-su̅tras (Introduction)

ṛhⲹūٰ are sacred Hindu religious texts which consist of information regarding Vedic domestic rites and rituals meant for householder. These rites can be performed by the householder himself or any of his representatives, viz. his wife, son, student or a 󳾲ṇa priest. The procedure of ṛhⲹ rituals is simpler than the Śܳٲ rites. Some rituals are described not only in the Śܳٲsūtras but in the ṛhⲹūٰ also. The Śūlagava sacrifice belongs to Śܳٲ ritual as well as ṛhⲹ ritual.

Rudra occupies a prominent position in the ṛhⲹ rites. Rudra’s close connection with the ṛhⲹ rites has been found in numerous contexts.
