Analysis of ṇa Sandhi
[Note: There is no Vimarśa sandhi found in this drama.]
The seventh and last Act of the play forms the ṇa Sandhi. In this Act the entire problem is going to be solved and ī is going to obtain both physical and spiritual welfare by the grace of the Supreme.Thus in this sandhi, the īᲹ laid in the beginning of the play, gets fructified with all the impediments in the way are removed[1].
As the Act opens, the hero and his minister վñԲ Ś enter the stage. The king is pleased and is assured about the final result of success on his side in the war on the basis of what had taken place in the earlier Act.
Now the war is described step by step, where for every attack of the enemy team, the soldiers of ī’s team aptly give a counter attack. As the war continues endlessly, ī by the grace of the Lord, gets into NirīᲹ whereby he gets all powers to vanquish the enemies. At oncea voice behind the curtain is heard announcing the end of the war and total success of the side of the hero.
Just before the announcement from behind the curtain, lord Ś blesses ī, and advises him to always consider both ñԲ and վñԲ as equally indispensable allies. The former leads ī to ǰṣa while the latter deals with trivarga (dharma, artha and 峾) paving thus the way for ǰṣa[2].
This part of ṇa Sandhi imbued with śⲹ is called 貹ūԲ[3] (com. p.475):
evam āścaryakarāṇāṃ bhagavadanugrahopātta-paramaśreyasā� pratīte� ܱ貹ūԲ� 峾 nirvahaṇa-sandhyṅgmuktam ||
That part of the ṇa Sandhi, where the play gets to a close with blessings from the Lord by way of Բ is 屹ⲹṃh.[4]
Accordingly in this play, lord Ś enquires ī as to what else he desires from Himself; this forms the ṅg known as 屹ⲹṃh (com.p.481):
Բⲹ ⲹ� 쾱� ܰ� na kimapyata� 貹� śreyo vidyate'vaśiṣṭamityarthaṃḥ | ānena ca “Բsaṃprāpti� kāvyasaṃhāra ucyate� iti kāvyasaṃhāralakṣaṇamṅgmihopakṣiptam |
