Historical Elements in the Matsya Purana

This page relates ‘Dynasty of Maurya� of the study on the historical elements of the Matsya-purana: one of the eighteen Mahapuranas which are Sanskrit texts that have preserved the cultural heritage, philosophy, religion, geography, etc of ancient India. This Matsyapurana was originally written in 20,000 verses and deals with topics such as architecture, ancient history, polity, religion and philosophy.

Dynasty of Maurya
Subsequently there were eight sons like Sukalpa etc. in the dynasty of Ѳ貹峾. The eight ruled for only twelve years respectively. After twelve years Kautilya had overthrown the sons of Ѳ貹峾. Then after ruling for a hundred years, this state went under the authority of the Mauryan dynasty. After this his son was Śatadhanvā who ruled for six years. After that his son ṛhٳ ruled for seventy years. Thereafter Ś첹 remain the king for thirty-six years. After Ś첹, his grandson ruled for seventy years. His son became the king ٲśٳ who ruled for eight years. Then his son ruled for nineteen years. These ten Mauryan Բٲ’s kings ruled the earth for one hundred thirty-seven years. Subsequently this kingdom passed on the Śunga dynasty. At that time ŚܲԲṃś� commander ʳṣyٰ destroyed the kings of ṛhٳ dynasty and became king himself and ruled for thirty-six years.[1]
