Historical Elements in the Matsya Purana

This page relates ‘Lineages of Kashyapa� of the study on the historical elements of the Matsya-purana: one of the eighteen Mahapuranas which are Sanskrit texts that have preserved the cultural heritage, philosophy, religion, geography, etc of ancient India. This Matsyapurana was originally written in 20,000 verses and deals with topics such as architecture, ancient history, polity, religion and philosophy.

Lineages of śⲹ貹
Ѳṣi Ѳī’s son was śⲹ貹. The Gotra Pravartaka who were born in the śⲹ貹’s dynasty are follows�Āśⲹṇi, Meṣakīritakāyana, Udagraj, ٳ, Bhoja, Vinyalakṣaṇa, Śalāhaleya, ܰṣṭ, Kanyaka, Āܰⲹṇa, Mrgaya, Srotana, ܳٲⲹԲ, ٱ𱹲Բ, ҴdzԲ, Adhaschāya, Abhaya, ٲⲹԲ, Śākrāyaṇa, Bodhayāṇa, Kartikya, ᲹپԲ, ٲⲹԲ, Kouberaka, Syākāra, Agniśarmāyaṇa, ѱṣa貹, Kaikarasapa, Babhru, ʰ峦ⲹ, Jñana-Sānjñeya, ĀԲ, Prāserya, Ś峾ǻ岹, Vaivaśapa, ⲹԲ, Kāśtāhārina, , Ājihāyana, Hāstika, Vaikarneya, Kāsyapeya, , Sāhāritāyana and ٲԲ ṛg. These sages were belonging to the Vatsara, Ksyapa and Nidhuva Pravara . Mutual marriage is also prohibited in these.
The names of sages originated in the tirbe of ٱ峾ṣyⲹṇa were–Anusūya, Nākuray, ٲ貹, Ჹٲ貹, Śaisira, Udvahi, Իī, Roupasevaki, 峾ܲԾ, Kādrupingakṣi, Sajātambi and Divāvaṣṭa. Vatsara, śⲹ貹 and ղṣṭ these three were considered as Pravara of all these sages. Mutual marriage is also prohibited in these. Sanjāti, Nabha, Pippalya, Jalandhara, Bhujātapura, ūⲹ, Kardama, Ҳ岹īܰ, ᾱṇy, ٲ, śⲹ貹, Gobhila, Kulaha, ṛṣ첹ṇḍ, ṛgٳ, Uttara, 岵, Ѳṛṇ, Bhartsya, Ѳ, Kerala, Śāndilya, Բ, Devajati and Paippalāda. These sages were belonging to the Pravara of Asita, Devala and śⲹ貹. They were prohibited to intermarry to each other.[1]
