chapter II Major goddesses 111 of Sati fell in different parts of India especially the north. From the
body parts of Sati different Sakti pītas originate. The Sakti pīṭas are in
fact Satī pītas. On the basis of observation it is inferred that these are
the amsa-devatas of the primordial Sakti of Śiva ie. Satī.
This Sati who had immolated herself was reborn as the
daughter of Himavat and his wife Menā and is known as Pārvati. The
word is self explanatory and means the daughter of the mountain or as
the one belonging to the mountain. The lord Bhava married the
daughter of Himavan and Mena known as Pārvati or Haimavati. She
was infact Sati who had assumed another form 159.
