MP a sacrifice to the goddess Sarasvati is mentioned. A certain king
Uttama by name banished his wife. The queen was taken to the Patāla
by Nandā the daughter of the Nāga king Kapotaka. The Nāga king
angry and curses his daughter to become dumb. When Uttara cools
down and recalls his wife back she requests him to find a remedy for
Nanda to gain back her speech. The king consults the brahmin who
gave the information about a sacrifice which is performed in honour
of Sarasvati. The king under takes the performances of the said
sacrifice accordingly. And on the performance of the sacrifice, Nandā
recovers her speech back ³23.
The Kālikā Purāṇa mentions Mātangī as the name by which
Sarasvati is known at Kamākhya 324. The DBP mentions about the
Viśvajaya Kavaca³25
of Sarasvati in detail. The following places and
synonyms or substitute names of Sarasvati are mentioned by it.
Among the synonyms of Sarasvati mention in the Aṅga-nyāsa are
Vagdevatā, Bhagavati, Vāgvādinī, Vidyādhistatrī, Brāhmi,
Vidyadhiśvarupinī, Vāṇ�, Varṇātmika, Buddhi Janani, Grantha Bija
ܱ.
Her place of residence mentioned in the 'Digbandana' of
the nyasa is
Sarvakanṭavāsinī ie. Residing in the throat of everyone.
