Iconographic representation.
The Durgā festival in Bengal is a part of the Sarad-
navarātrī festival. In this festival, huge idols of the above mentioned
scene from the DBP are depicted and worshipped in the huge pandals
specially erected for the purpose.
Names of Sarasvati.
The different names and reasons for the names of Sarasvati
are given. She is called as 'Bhārati' on account of her coming to the
Bhārata land. She, being the dear of Brahmā, is known as Brāhmi. As
she presides over speech or Vāc she is Vāṇ�. She resides in 'Saras' or
large water bodies so she is Sarasvati. She is Sarasvati the Sakti of
Viṣṇu who is called Sarasvan as Viṣṇu resides everywhere - in tanks,
wells and in running water³21.
Worship.
It is mentioned that the person who worships the goddess
Sarasvati on the bright fortnight of Magha with sixteen articles of
food resides for one day and one night of Brahma in the Maṇidvīpa.
