Generally the relationship of a mother and daughter is very cordial but the Brahma Purana notes two curious instances where it is otherwise. Thus Paura, Gadhi's wife deceives her daughter Satyavati by interchanging the carus prepared by her son-in-law Rcika, Satyavati's husband, to get a virtuous brahmin as her own son and she allotted the caru meant for procreating a lustrous ksatriya to Satyavati (10.38-40).
