This page relates 鈥楽arvaroga-bhaishajya hymns鈥� found in the study on diseases and remedies found in the Atharvaveda and Charaka-samhita. These texts deal with Ayurveda鈥攖he ancient Indian Science of life鈥攚hich lays down the principles for keeping a sound health involving the use of herbs, roots and leaves. The Atharvaveda refers to one of the four Vedas (ancient Sanskrit texts encompassing all kinds of knowledge and science) containing many details on Ayurveda, which is here taken up for study.

The Sarvaroga-产丑补颈峁箩测补 hymns
The Sarvaroga-产丑补颈峁箩测补 [蝉补谤惫补谤辞驳补产丑补颈峁箩箩测补峁� ] hymns, the panacea for all diseases鈥搊f the Atharvaveda are included in the so-called Amholi峁単膩岣� 驳补峁嘺 and the 膧测耻峁补 驳补峁嘺. The healing rituals ascribed to them are quite general and mainly consist of sprinkling water and washing of the patient with water mixed with dregs of ghee[1], as well as leaves of K膩mp墨la[2] or 碍耻峁ａ弓丑补[3] or Yava[4]. After the bath Yava 尘补峁噄 or Vara峁嘺 尘补峁噄 is tied. The water dug up by the ants Upaj墨k膩 and the earth from an ant-hill are used in this connection. One cannot differentiate between 膧tharva峁� prayers for longevity (膧yur峁膩峁噄) and those for prosperity (Pu峁ａ弓ikarma). In such cases, the 碍补耻艣颈办补 厂奴迟谤补 primarily proposes 膧帽jana尘补峁噄[5], 艢a峁卥ha尘补峁噄[6], Par峁嘺尘补峁噄[7] which are all prescribed for a Brahmin youth on the occasion of his investiture.
