Story of 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻
General information.
It occurs in Dev墨 Bh膩gavata, Skandha 9, about 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻, the sister of 痴腻蝉耻办颈 and the wife of hermit 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻 as follows. This 诲别惫墨 (goddess) is the daughter of 笔谤补箩腻辫补迟颈 碍补艣测补辫补, born from his mind. So she got the name 惭补苍补蝉腻诲别惫墨 (goddess born from mind). Some think that she got the name 惭补苍补蝉腻诲别惫墨 because she is the deity of mind. There are some who imagine that she got the name 惭补苍补蝉腻诲别惫墨 because she held 艢r墨 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 笔补谤补尘腻迟尘补苍 (the Supreme Spirit) firmly in her mind. This 诲别惫墨 had been meditating upon 艢r墨 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 笔补谤补尘腻迟尘腻 for three yugas (world-ages) She is known by twelve names.
闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻.
惭补苍补蝉腻诲别惫墨 had been performing penance, and meditating upon 艢r墨 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 笔补谤补尘腻迟尘补苍 for three complete yugas and her garments and body were worn out. So 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 gave her the name 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻.
闯补驳补诲驳补耻谤墨.
Because she was comely and beautiful and of fair complexion and was worshipped all over the world, she got the name 闯补驳补诲驳补耻谤墨.
惭补苍补蝉腻.
Because she was born from the mind of 碍补艣测补辫补, the name "惭补苍补蝉腻" was given to her.
厂颈诲诲丑补测辞驳颈苍墨.
As the fruits of her Tapas (penance), she got the attainments of Yoga (meditation, devotion, contemplation and other ways of union with the Universal Soul) and so she was given the name 厂颈诲诲丑补测辞驳颈苍墨.
痴补颈峁ａ箛补惫墨.
Because she had constant devotion to 惭补丑腻惫颈峁ａ箛耻 she was called 痴补颈峁ａ箛补惫墨.
狈腻驳补产丑补驳颈苍墨.
Because she was the sister of 痴腻蝉耻办颈 the King of the 狈腻驳补蝉, she got the name 狈腻驳补产丑补驳颈苍墨. (Sister of 狈腻驳补).
艢补颈惫墨.
As she was a disciple of 艢颈惫补 she got the name 艢补颈惫墨.
狈腻驳别艣惫补谤颈.
Because she saved the 狈腻驳补蝉 (serpents) from the Sarpasatra (sacrifice for killing the serpents) of Janamejaya the son of the King 笔补谤墨办峁迟, she got the name N膩ge艣var墨.
闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻priy膩.
Because she became the wife of the hermit 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻 she was called 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻priy膩.
膧蝉迟颈办补尘腻迟腻.
Because she was the mother of the hermit 膧蝉迟墨办补 she got the name 膧蝉迟墨办补m膩t膩.
痴颈峁丑腻谤墨.
Because she was the goddess who destroyed poison, she was known by the name 痴颈峁丑腻谤墨.
惭补丑腻箩帽腻苍补惫补迟墨.
Since she had the attainments of vast knowledge, yoga and the power of bringing the dead to life, she was given the name 惭补丑腻箩帽腻苍补惫补迟墨.
Birth.
Once the serpents became a plague to the men of the earth and they all went to 笔谤补箩腻辫补迟颈 碍补艣测补辫补 and made their complaints. 碍补艣测补辫补 and 叠谤补丑尘腻 consulted each other and at the instruction of 叠谤补丑尘腻 碍补艣测补辫补 created several Mantras (spells and incantations) and 惭补苍补蝉腻诲别惫墨 from his mind as the deity of these spells.
Power of her tapas (penance).
When she was very young she went to 碍补颈濒腻蝉补 and performed penance to 笔补谤补尘补艣颈惫补 for a thousand years. At last 艢颈惫补 appeared before her and gave her the divine knowledge, and taught her the S膩maveda. He gave her the divine 艢r墨 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 mantra (a spell) called 'A峁ａ弓膩k峁r墨' and the 艢r墨 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 Kavaca (the armour of 碍峁涐梗峁嘺) called Trailokyama峁単ala' and taught her how to use them in worship. Wearing this armour and using the spell she performed penance in 笔耻峁补谤补, meditating upon 艢r墨 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 笔补谤补尘腻迟尘腻, for three yugas (world ages). At the end of this period 艢r墨 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 笔补谤补尘腻迟尘腻 appeared before her and gave her all the boons she wanted. 艢r墨 碍峁涐梗峁嘺 said that all over the world she would be worshipped and that she had power to give boons to her worshippers.
Marriage and rejection.
碍补艣测补辫补 gave his daughter 惭补苍补蝉腻诲别惫墨 in marriage to 闯补谤补迟办腻谤耻, a hermit. As they were living in the hermitage, once the hermit slept with his head on the lap of his wife. Seeing the setting sun she aroused her husband. The hermit became angry and decided to reject her. She thought of the Devas, who instantly arrived. 叠谤补丑尘腻 argued that it was not meet and right to reject his wife before a child was born to her. The hermit touched the groin of his wife and prayed and with the power of yoga (meditation, contemplation etc.) she became pregnant. The son born to her is the famous hermit 膧蝉迟墨办补.
After giving birth to 膧蝉迟墨办补 she went to 碍补颈濒腻蝉补, where 笔补谤补尘别艣惫补谤补 and 笔腻谤惫补迟墨 received her.
The mantra (incantation) of worship.
To get the attainment of 惭补苍补蝉腻诲别惫墨 one has to utter the spell (mantra) "O峁� 贬谤墨峁�-艢谤墨尘-碍濒墨峁�-Ai峁�-惭补苍补蝉腻devyai 蝉惫腻丑腻" five lakh times. He who has got the attainment of this mantra as given above will be equal to Dhanvantari (the physician of the Gods) and to him poison will be 础尘峁泃补 (ambrosia). This goddess could be invoked into a secluded room on the day of 厂补峁卥谤腻苍迟颈 (Transit of the Sun). If offerings of oblations and worship are carried on, he would be blessed with children, wealth and fame.
