Daughter of Vaivasvata Manu.

Genealogy.

Descended from 痴颈峁ａ箛耻 in this order:鈥�叠谤补丑尘腻鈥�惭补谤墨肠颈鈥�碍补艣测补辫补鈥�Vaivasvata Manu鈥擨l膩. Vaivasvata Manu was the son of 碍补艣测补辫补 by his wife Aditi, and Il膩 the daughter of Vaivasvata Manu by his wife, 艢谤补诲诲丑腻. 滨办峁�v腻办耻, the ancestral father of the solar dynasty of Kings was brother of Il膩.

2) Vaivasvata Manu and 艢谤补诲诲丑腻 had, for a long time no children. Manu got performed once by Agastya a 测补箩帽补 to propitiate the 惭颈迟谤腻惫补谤耻峁嘺蝉 so that a son might be born to him (Manu). Soon a daughter was born to him and she was called Il膩. Then Manu asked Vasi峁�tha why a daughter was born to him instead of a son for whom the 测补箩帽补 was performed by Agastya. At once, Vasi峁�tha by his will-power turned the girl Il膩 into a boy, and the boy was named Sudyumna. (叠丑腻驳补惫补迟补).

Sudyumna again turned into woman.

Once 艢耻苍补办补 and some other sages went to the great forest 碍耻尘腻谤补 Vana near 碍补颈濒腻蝉补 to salute Sri 笔补谤补尘别艣惫补谤补 ignorant of the fact that just then 笔腻谤惫补迟墨 and Parme艣vara were enjoying themselves. The sudden appearance of 艢耻苍补办补 and others was not relished by the divine couple, who were then naked. They therefore, pronounced the curse that anybody who entered the forest in future would be turned into a woman. (叠丑腻驳补惫补迟补).

Sudyumna, now a young man, went for hunting one day. Sudyumna who was ignorant of this curse entered this forest with his friends while hunting. At once all of them were transformed into women. Grief-stricken, they stayed in the forest for some days, and then started for the palace. Sudyumna bearing the name Il膩 walked at the head of the party as a beautiful woman. On the way Budha met Il膩, they fell in love with each other and got married. A son, 笔耻谤奴谤补惫补蝉 was born to Budha by Il膩. (叠丑腻驳补惫补迟补).

Transformation again;

Il膩 expressed to 痴补蝉颈峁ａ弓丑补, her grief at having been turned into a woman, the sage requested 艢r墨 笔补谤补尘别艣惫补谤补 to restore her to her former form as a man. 艢颈惫补 said that Il膩 would be a man and a woman every alternate month, throughout life. During the month when she was a man he would engage himself in matters of Government, and the next month, when a woman, she would stay in the inner apartments in the palace. 叠谤补丑尘腻峁囜笉a 笔耻谤腻峁嘺, Chapter 32 says that 滨办峁�v腻办耻, brother of 笔耻谤奴谤补惫补蝉 ruled the state till the latter became a major. As soon as 笔耻谤奴谤补惫补蝉 attained majority Sudyumna handed over to him the reins of Government and retired to the forest for tapas, and during this period he was taught the Nav膩k峁�ara mantra by sage 狈腻谤补诲补. Sudyumna adored 顿别惫墨 with this Mantra. She appeared to him and blessed him with the state of salvation. (叠丑腻驳补惫补迟补).

笔耻谤奴谤补惫补蝉 married 鲍谤惫补艣墨, and ruled the country. (叠丑腻驳补惫补迟补, 9th Skandha; 顿别惫墨 叠丑腻驳补惫补迟补, First Skandha; 惭补丑腻产丑腻谤补迟补 膧诲颈 Parva, Chapter 75 and 础苍耻艣腻蝉补苍补 Parva, Chapter 147, Verse 26).
