: SOAS University of London: Protective Rites in the Netra Tantra狈别迟谤补产丑奴迟补 (啶ㄠ啶む啶班き啷傕い) is another name for Netramantra, according to the Netratantra of K峁mar膩ja: a 艢aiva text from the 9th century in which 艢iva (Bhairava) teaches P膩rvat墨 topics such as metaphysics, cosmology, and soteriology.鈥擜ccordingly, [verse 22.10cd-13]鈥斺淸...] Thus, [the mantra] is called 鈥渘etra鈥�, because [it] protects. It is called netra [because] it leads to 尘辞办峁. It shall save [the disciple] from the great terror. It is called netra from the roots leading and saving. [Moreover,] it is said to be netra, being that which gives life to all creatures. [Just as netra in the sense of the eye makes everything clear because it illuminates everything, it is also referred to as 苍别迟谤补产丑奴迟补, from this [comes] all life]. Parame艣vara is like the Lord [i.e., the owner or controller] of the entire multitude of all mantras鈥�.

Shaiva (啶多啶�, 艣aiva) or Shaivism (艣aivism) represents a tradition of Hinduism worshiping Shiva as the supreme being. Closely related to Shaktism, Shaiva literature includes a range of scriptures, including Tantras, while the root of this tradition may be traced back to the ancient Vedas.
