Purana and Itihasa (epic history)
: archive.org: Puranic EncyclopediaԲ (मानगर्वा).—A celestial maiden who was born as a she-monkey in the vicinity of the Himālayas by a curse of Brahmā. She became the wife of a monkey named Kesarī. She was named Añjanā and was the mother of Hanūmān. (For details see under Hanūmān).

The Purana (पुरा�, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
