General definition (in Jainism)
: Encyclopedia of Jainism: Tattvartha SutraĀٳ岹 (आत्मप्रवाद) refers to a sub-division of ūٲ, one of the five parts of ṛṣṭi岹: one of the twelve limbs of the internal-corpus (ṅg-ṣṭ). The Aṅgapraviṣṭa refers to one of the two types of scriptural knowledge (śܳٲ), which refers to one of the five types of knowledge (ñԲ).
according to the 2nd-century Tattvārthasūtra 1.20, “scriptural knowledge (śܳٲ) preceded by sensory knowledge (mati) is of two, or of twelve (e.g., ṛṣṭi岹) or of many kinds. ṛṣṭi岹 is of five kinds (e.g., ūٲ). Pūrvagata is again of fourteen sub-divisions (e.g., ٳ-岹).

Jainism is an Indian religion of Dharma whose doctrine revolves around harmlessness (ahimsa) towards every living being. The two major branches (Digambara and Svetambara) of Jainism stimulate self-control (or, shramana, ‘self-reliance) and spiritual development through a path of peace for the soul to progess to the ultimate goal.
