2) [nāsti ṛk abhyastatayā yasya ac samāsa�] Not conversant with, not studying the Ṛgveda, one not invested with the sacred thread and hence not yet entitled to study the Vedas (as a boy); द्विवेदाश्चैकवेदाश्च�- प्यनृचश्� तथापरे (dvivedāścaikavedāścā- pyṛcśca tathāpare) Mahābhārata (Bombay) 3.149.28. यथ� चाज्ञेऽफलं दानं तथ� विप्रो� नृचोऽफलः (yathā cājñe'phala� dāna� tathā vipro' nṛco'phala�) Manusmṛti 2.158; अनृच� माणवकः (ṛco māṇavaka�) Mugdha. (In this case the form should properly be ṛc; ṛcbahvṛcāvadhye- taryeva Sk.; but sometimes ṛc also in the same sense; cf. tathā'nṛce havirdatvā na dātā labhate phalam Manusmṛti 3.142; sahasra� hi sahasrāṇāmṛcā� yatra bhuñjate 131); अनृक्क (ṛk첹) also in the same sense.
