(Translated by the Author from his Telugu Song)
Snow-white, mysterious,
Without beginning, without end,
Betwixt Thee and me
There is a Veil, oh Damsel!
There is a Veil.
I saw Thy shadow on the curtain,
I heard Thy music from beyond,
I bathed in the light that broke through,
And in eager ecstasy I cried:
"Which is the way to Thee?"
But betwixt Thee and me
There is the Veil, oh Damsel!
There is the Veil.
Calling unto Thine unseen Presence,
Lost in the Ideal ever-elusive,
With folded hands
And dreams unfulfilled,
I stand before the Veil with half-shut eyes,
–The Veil that cannot be rent.
I on this side
And Thou on the other,
Betwixt Thee and me
There is a veil, oh Damsel!
There is a Veil.
