Bhayanakarasa or Terrible :
Bhaya or fear is Sthāyibhāva of Bhayānakarasa; its deity is god Yama. The
thing from which fear arises is Ālambana; actions of dreadful person are Uddipana-
vibhāvas; paleness, stumbling speech, swooning, swetting, horripilation, trembling,
looking towards different directions are Anubhāvas;
Following is the verse showing that delineation of Bhayānakarasa.
पातालक्षिप्तसिन्धु� प्रशकलितकुलक्ष्माभृदुत्कीलनूम�-
र्निर्धूतादित्यचन्द्रद्युतिगणनिबिडध्वान्तनीरन्ध्रदिक्कः �
वेधः सोधप्रभेदी विघटितपवनस्कन्धपर्यस्ततारः
प्रारब्धोऽसौ विवेकप्रतिरथिन� महानाहवे मोहवेग� ।। [pātālakṣiptasindhu� praśakalitakulakṣmābhṛdutkīlanūmi-
rnirdhūtādityacandradyutigaṇanibiḍadhvāntanīrandhradikka� |
vedha� sodhaprabhedī vighaṭitapavanaskandhaparyastatāra�
prārabdho'sau vivekapratirathini mahānāhave mohavega� ||

"The great battle against Viveka, in which Mahāmoha displays his terrific.
strength has begun. As a result of it, the oceans have been cast into the
nether regions (Pātāla); the great mountains have been broken to pieces
and the earth shows extensive cavities where they stood; the Sun, the
Moon and the Stars have disappeared leaving all the quarters in dense
darkness; the mansion of Brahmā being subjected to cracks and the Stars
have fallen on account of the destruction caused by the wind."
Here fear on account of Mahāmoha is Sthāyībhāva; Mahāmoha who is the
source of fear is Ālambana; plightful conditions of ocean, mountains, the earth, the
sun, the moon, the stars, different horizons and of the mansion of Brahma are
Vyabhakaribhāvas. Here Anubhava is silent.
Therefore this is an apt example where Bhayānakarasa is developed.
Bibhatsarasa or Odious Sentiment :
Gigupsä is the Sthāyībhāva of Bibhatsarasa. Its colour is bluish and
Mahākāla is the deity. Meat, blood etc. are Ālambana-vibhāvas. And falling of
insects on such things is Uddipana-vibhāva. Spewing, turning away the face
