This is an English study of the Sankalpa Suryodaya鈥攁n allegorical Sanskrit drama by Venkatanatha, a distinguished philosopher-poet and dramatist of the Vishishtadvaita Vedanta tradition. This work of Venkata-natha (or, Vedanta Deshika). stands out for integrating allegory to convey moral and philosophical truths. The thesis examines its place in Sanskrit literature.

-50. Rahasyam膩t峁沰膩 and Tattvam膩t峁沰膩 : These are short Tamil manuals
of the 艢r墨vai峁ａ箛ava sadhana of spiritualism.
51-52. Rahasyapadavi and Tattvapadavi: These two are written in Tamil
to propagate the religion of R膩m膩nuja.
53. Samprad膩yapari艣uddhi : It is written in Ma峁噄prav膩岣穉. This deals with
the ideas and the ideals of Munitraya-sampradaya.
54. 膧r膩dhanak盲rik膩: As the very title indicates, in two simple verses it
describes the method of worshipping the God.
55. Prabandhas膩ra峁�: In eighteen Tamil verses, it is in praise of twelve
膧岣穠膩rs the great seers of 艢r墨vai峁ａ箛avism.
56. Hastigirim膩h膩tmya峁�: Written in Ma峁噄prav膩la, it describes the history
of K膩帽cipuram in the style of the Puranic texts. Lord Varadar膩ja of K膩帽c墨 has been
glorified herein.
57. Paramapadasop膩na峁�: Written in Maniprav膩岣穉, it establishes the
艢r墨vai峁ａ箛ava sadhana of Prapatti to the exclusion of the other means of the
realisation of the Divine.
II. Theses on 艢r墨vai峁ａ箛ava Theology and Ritualism :
These traditional works characterise Vedanta De艣ika as a teacher and a
successor to the Sampradayapravartana - seat of R膩m膩nuja, and hence aims at
propounding the religion and philosophy of 艢r墨vai峁ａ箛avism. These works are:
1. Nik峁parak峁Ｄ�: This is a thesis on Nik峁pa or Prapatti giving utmost
importance to the cause of love and devotion to God. This work is considered to
be Ved膩nta De艣ika's literary effort at revealing the supreme secret of love for God,
man and Nature.
2. P膩帽car膩trarak峁Ｄ�: It discusses at length, the self validity of the
P膩帽car膩tra-sa峁僪itas and the universality of the P膩帽car膩tra religion and morality.
